Pantai Punggur pantaiku

Setiap kali balik Malaysia, pantai ni yg aku kunjung, dulu-dulu datang ngan mak atau adik, sekarang datang dengan Shabaz pulak. Last year datang dengan Shabaz, this year too. Setiap kali tu, aku cerita pasal masalah pantai ni. On the way to home, I asked him to drive, drive slow-slow, I wanted to smell the beach, the village, recorded everything I saw and keep them in my mind.

A lot of things have changed to this beach; once in a while it was a very nice beach, then erosion occurred and deteriorated the amenity of the beach. In 2004-2005, paper reported facilities on that area had been destroyed especially during the storm (mana tak nye, pantai yg jauh dah jadi depan mata). Orang kampong had to bring their boat far into deep water or to the land because the thick sediment covering the beach during low tide. Kesian sangat tengok pakcik2 tua ngangkut bot diorg, diaorg pun ngadu.

In 2006-2007, what could be seen was a dredger to excavate sands especially near river mouth, a few wave breakers on the beach but still could not solve the erosion. Dulu, tak paham napa diorg excavate pasir2 tu, nak jual ker apa? Yealah diorg korek nak dalamkan sikit pantai tu, senang keluar masuk boat, takdela tersekat jer.

In 2008, huge concrete blocks were located on the beach, which I believed, the beach rehabilitation was about to start.

In 2009, beach environment changed dramatically, concrete blocks perfectly arranged as breakwater, near river mouth sea blocks were dumped nicely. What needs to be done now is periodical maintenance over the beach both in engineering and environmental aspect (pollution pulak).

Teringat suatu ketika dulu, naik turun Department of Irrigation, komplen itu ini, dan bila kerajaan nak amik tindakan, satu kakak tu selalu noo sound ‘adik oii senang ke nak buat project baiki pantai, cosnye juta-juta, biar diaorg siapkan dulu project kat Sg. Ayam (Sg. Ayam pun pantai jugak)’…tapi kak, kat Batu Pahat mana ada banyak pantai lain, or Batu Pahat nak pi pantai mana lagi, kesian kat org kampong, nak cari makan, kerajaan kena buat sesuatu.
